When Jack and Annie were walking home from the grocery store, they saw a Thomson's gazelle which was a sign of the magic tree house coming back. They followed it and met Morgan in there.
They still wanted to become Master Librarians and could help her in her work. They had solved two riddles so far. Morgan handed third riddle on the ancient scroll to them, and a book with cover of 'The Plains of Africa'.
The riddle says that it is the color of gold and as sweet as can be, but beware of the danger that's all around it.
Jack with Annie took off the Frog Creek woods, putting on a big jar of peanut and a loaf of bread in his back.
As they opened their eyes in the tree house in Africa, a giraffe was eating leaves off the tree outside the window.
In late spring, thousands of zebras and gazelles and millions of wildebeests were migrating from the dry plans across the Mara River. Annie was helping the wildebeests to cross the river, but she slipped down into a pool of mud near the water. While Jack held out a branch to her, a huge vulture circled overhead because it thought Annie was near the end. Finally, being covered with the black mud from head to toe she came out onto the bank. Jack helped her onto there, getting mud all over himself.
When they went to get clean, two hyenas were moving closer to them. Jack and Annie acted like a monster and shouted to hyenas, because the Africa book says the hyena has a reputation for being a thief and a coward. The hyenas were gone.
As they reached a pond in the edge of the forest, an elephant sprayed them with water by it's trunk. After taking shower, they were spick-and-span.
That's when a small gray bird, is called a honey guide, twittered and flew around them. They followed it, found a beehive hanging from a low branch, and saw bees buzzed around it. The book says the honey guide waits for Masai tribesperson to scatter the bees and take the honey. Jack and Annie waved a weeds like giant fans near the tree, and the bees scattered. Then they jiggled hive with a branch, it fell to the ground and broke open. They tasted honey, and the bird feasted on the honeycomb. At the moment they noticed the answer of riddle, "honey".
But a Masai warrior with a spear and a curved sword hanging from his belt was standing in front of them. The warrior was as still as a statue. Jack and Annie made a peanut butter and honey sandwich for all of them. The warrior bit into his sandwich, after Jack and Annie took bites. And then the warrior turned gracefully and vanished into the trees, leaving a dignified smile.
As walking back toward the tree house, they saw a bunch of lions sleeping in the shade of a tree which the tree house was in. In addition to that the hyenas were back. What's even worse, the big lion opened his eyes, Jack and Annie felt the hair rise on the back of their necks and didn't move an inch.
When Jack looked around, there was a giraffe walking toward the tree that the magic tree house was in. Jack remembered he'd read from the book, lions avoid giraffes because the giraffe has a very powerful kick which is a dangerous attack.
They got underneath the giraffe whose legs were so long, they could stand up under it. They walked in the same rhythm as the giraffe. And they got closer and closer to the tree house. As they climbed, the lion growled and leaped at the ladder. They climbed faster than they'd ever climbed and leaped into the tree house.
As Annie unrolled the scroll, instead of riddle in its place was shimmering word, HONEY.
And then they came back the Frog Creek woods.
The trip was a really long story like ten chapters. The giraffe was the true honey on that trip, they said. Because it was sweet and golden, with danger all around it.
Now they have just one riddle to go.
