As Master Librarians, Jack and Annie must go on four missions to save stories from ancient libraries. They have already brought back a scroll from an ancient Roman town and a bamboo from ancient China. Now, they are about to head out on their third mission.

Morgan handed to Jack the paper in Latin, which they had to find in Ireland. During Dark Ages in Europe, educated people wrote in Latin. The early Middle Ages were once known as the "Dark Ages" because learning and culture nearly vanished throughout Europe. The brave Irish monks who helped keep Western civilization alive.

She gave a research book titled "Ireland Long Ago", saying that in their darkest hour only the ancient story could save them. But, their darkest hour when there was no hope left, if they ask for help too soon, it would not come.

In the tree house, they landed on a cliff above the ocean. There was a rocky shore twenty feet below, waves slapped against the rocks, and steeped steps cut into the cliff. The cliff also rose above them in the mist and a thick rope dangled down the stairs.

Jack and Annie grabbed the rope and climbed up the steps, then they bumped into a man who was Irish monk on the top of the cliff. They showed their secret library cards to the monk, Brother Patrick, and said to him why they came there.

All of them went to a monastery where monks lived and worked. After Brother Patrick led them around it, they all stepped into its library at last. The monks recorded Christian stories as well as the old myths of Ireland there. That was where civilization hid on top of their lonely island in the sea.

Next Brother Patrick led them over to an old monk who was painting in a book, Brother Patrick. He showed them the book decorated with gleaming and blue jewels, worked on the book his whole life. He made the book with sheepskin, goose quill, and paints made of earth and plants. The book was founded which Jack and Annie were seeking. But Michael had not yet completed his work. Jack and Annie didn't know if they would be able to come back, but had given up taking the book.

As they were at the gate with Patrick for leaving, the sun had started to rise. No one spoke as the great, fiery ball rose slowly over the ocean. Finally, Patrick broke the silence, "Shine, O light of the sun. On this day filled with wonder." He said it was such sights as this that inspire their bookmaking.

As they let go of the rope after Patrick went in, Jack looked at the horizon one last time. His heart nearly stopped because of appearing Vikings. They returned to monastery and shouted to monks. All of monks made haste to gather the books and hid it a secret hiding place, a cave on the other side of the island.

The other hand, Michael handed to them his book of Irish tales. He thought it was better that the world should have some of it than none at all. While the Vikings would climb the steps, Jack and Annie raced to the shore other way that Patrick had pointed them about.

When they stepped down onto shore, they both frozen. The reason was that the Vikings were looking at the top of the cliff. Jack and Annie saw a serpent prows of the Viking ships on the shoreline.

They hid to one small ship which had been tied to a rock, but the rope went slack, and the ship slid out to sea. In the ship, they tried to pull an oars but the current was so strong that the oar was ripped from their hands. Unfortunately rain started to fall, the sky was black, and a gush of seawater poured over the side of the ship! The black sky shook with thunder and flashed with lightning and huge wave was coming right toward them.

Jack pulled out the jeweled book and held it up. He cried that the story would save them. Rising from the oncoming wave was a giant sea serpent. The great serpent glided closer to the ship with its long neck against the back of and pushed it toward the shore. At last, the ship swooshed onto a sand bar near the shore, and then the serpent dove into the sea and was gone.

That's when two Vikings were staring down at them, Jack and Annie began scrambling up the rocks and reached the tree house and climbed inside. Jack pointed at the picture of the Frog Creek woods, and then they got back.

When they came back to the woods, Morgan was being in the tree house. They handed to her the jeweled book, then she put the book next to other books already they brought back. She also told that once the Vikings settled down, they became more than just a warrior people, so they actually added a lot to civilization.

Three of them would be going to meet in two weeks, as Morgan needed them to find one more lost book from ancient Greece.

The sun was rising when they got to their front porch of home. Jack turned back to watch the sun which was the same rising in Ireland over a thousand years ago.

"Shine, O light of the sun, on this day filled with wonder." Jack whispered.
